Cambodians Worldwide Stand for Peace as PM Pushes for Release of Soldiers Held by Thailand

Phnom Penh, August 6, 2025 – Prime Minister Hun Manet has expressed deep appreciation for the outpouring of support from Cambodians around the world who have united in defense of national sovereignty, peace, and solidarity amid the ongoing border tensions with Thailand.

“I am heartened to witness the patriotic spirit and national unity of Cambodians both at home and abroad, who have come together to support peace, express solidarity with our armed forces in defending territorial integrity, and call for the immediate release of 18 Cambodian soldiers currently held by the Thai military,” the Prime Minister said.

Speaking on behalf of the Royal Government and in his personal capacity, Prime Minister Hun Manet thanked the Cambodian people for their steadfast commitment to peace and national unity.

“These actions reflect the noble spirit of our people and reaffirm the values of patriotism and solidarity that are vital to our nation. Above all, they highlight the importance of the peace we strive to preserve as we work to end the conflict,” he added.

The Prime Minister reiterated the Royal Government’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding Cambodia’s territorial integrity while pursuing a peaceful and diplomatic resolution to the dispute.

A special meeting of the Cambodia–Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) is scheduled for August 7, 2025, in Malaysia. The meeting will bring together delegations from both countries, with observers from Malaysia, the United States, and China, to advance the implementation of the ceasefire agreement reached on July 28.

The Prime Minister also underscored the government’s continued efforts to secure the release of the 18 Cambodian soldiers detained by Thai forces.

“The Royal Government has been working through all diplomatic and legal channels to ensure their safe return to Cambodia as soon as possible,” he affirmed.
